“Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” — Matthew 6:21
Let’s get real for a second. What’s really got our hearts, my brothers? What are we truly living for? Because the truth is, we can talk all we want about being men of God, being faithful husbands and fathers, leading our families, but if our hearts aren’t fully set on Him, none of it matters.
Let that sink in, none of it. Not the image. Not the influence. Not the effort. If the root isn’t Him, the fruit won’t last. We can build ministries, businesses, and legacies in our name, but if they’re not rooted in His name, they crumble from the inside out.
I’ve been there…chasing after things, trying to be everything to everyone, putting in the work, checking off the boxes, but in the midst of all the busyness, I realized something deep: what we invest in is what we love. And more often than not, we give our hearts to the wrong things.
We give ourselves to things that validate our ego, stroke our pride, or numb our insecurity. We grind to be seen. We build platforms for our own comfort. We sacrifice peace for approval. And it happens so subtly that we call it “purpose” when really it’s just performance.
Real talk: Our hearts are powerful. What we love drives us. What we desire moves us. What we pursue, we become. The question isn’t if our hearts are set on something, it’s what our hearts are set on.
It’s not just about sin. It’s about substitution.
What have we replaced Him with?
What silent idols are sitting on the throne of our affection?
Is it work? The hustle? Is it chasing success or recognition, or is it your family, your comfort, your own self-image? For me, I’ve found myself caught up in striving, in wanting more, and in the moments where I felt I was falling short, I realized I was placing my heart in the wrong places. I wasn’t loving my family well, I wasn’t leading myself well, and I definitely wasn’t loving God the way I should. I was too busy trying to make a name for myself rather than pouring into the people God called me to serve.
It wasn’t that I didn’t love God. It was that I let other things take first place.
And sometimes, what takes our heart isn’t obvious sin, but misplaced priorities.
Good things, twisted just enough to take us off course.
But here’s the kicker. God doesn’t ask for part of our hearts, He asks for all of it. He doesn’t want a piece of us, He wants the whole man. Stand on business, my man, what has your heart today? What is taking up space in your mind, in your time, in your energy? If it’s not God, then we’ve got some serious awareness to do. Because whatever has your heart has control of your life.
Whatever owns your heart will set the tone for your home.
Whatever fills your heart will fuel your decisions.
And whatever steals your heart will slowly shape your future.
If we’re not fully pursuing Him, if we’re distracted by the things of this world, if we’re allowing our comfort to dictate our decisions, we’re not walking in His purpose. But when we give our hearts to Him, fully surrendered, He takes what was broken and makes it whole. He realigns our desires with His. He gives us vision for our marriages, our families, our roles as fathers and leaders.
And that’s the shift, when we finally stop chasing things to feel full and start pouring out from the fullness of Him. That’s where the power is. That’s where peace shows up. That’s where clarity comes back into the picture. That’s where the grind becomes rooted in grace, not pressure.
Stand on point today, are we ready to give Him our hearts completely? To stop holding on to the things that steal our passion and embrace what He has for us? Because when our hearts are set on Him, everything else falls into place.
Let it hit: If our hearts don’t belong to Him, nothing else will ever be enough.
But if they do, we already have more than we could ever need.
Prayer:
Father, search my heart. Reveal the things that are taking space where You should be. Forgive me for the times I’ve given my heart to things that don’t matter, to things that pull me away from You. Today, I surrender it all. Take my heart, mold it, and fill it with Your desires. Help me to be the man You’ve called me to be…focused, intentional, and fully set on Your purpose. Amen.
