“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” — Galatians 5:22-23
Let’s be real..everywhere we go, we carry something. A presence. A tone. A weight. A culture.
And I’m not talking about the kind of culture we see on TV or scroll past on social media. I’m talking about the culture that flows out of our hearts when no one’s watching. The internal atmosphere that spills into every room we walk into..the way we think, speak, respond, treat people, handle pressure, and navigate life.
The truth? Every man is building a culture. The only question is…what kind?
There have been times in my life..seasons full of pain, struggle, addiction, stress, performance pressure..where the culture I brought into every space was cold, closed off, anxious, even explosive. I wore a smile, but inside I was angry, ashamed, and tired of carrying it all.
I didn’t realize that my silence was shaping my surroundings. My inner war was becoming other people’s atmosphere. And it wasn’t just about my home or my marriage..it was in how I treated coworkers, strangers, people I passed by in life. I was carrying a culture of tension, self-preservation, and performance, because that’s what was ruling me on the inside.
And then God got to the root.
He didn’t start by saying, “Fix your attitude.” He started by saying, “Let Me heal your heart.”
Because the culture around me didn’t really change, until the culture within me did.
And here’s what I’ve learned: When God is in the process of leading and guiding your heart and mind, the culture within starts to shift.
You stop reacting and start responding. You stop surviving and start standing. You stop carrying fear and start carrying peace. And suddenly, the atmosphere around you begins to change too. Because that kind of internal culture brings life, overflow, joy, protection, and stability into every room you walk into.
We want peace in our lives, but we feed on chaos.
We want to be kind, but we’re filled with bitterness.
We want to be respected, but we let insecurity drive our decisions.
We want people to trust us, but we don’t even trust God with our deepest wounds.
It’s not just about how we act, it’s about who’s ruling inside us.
THE WAKE-UP CALL: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYING?
- Are you carrying stress that turns into impatience?
- Are you carrying pain that shows up as distance or anger?
- Are you carrying guilt that makes you over-perform to feel worthy?
- Are you carrying pride that makes you defensive and hard to reach?
This isn’t about shame, this is about awareness. Because the longer we carry a culture of survival, the harder it becomes to experience the culture of the Spirit: peace, joy, self-control, strength, freedom.
THE CHALLENGE: REBUILD FROM THE INSIDE OUT
You want to change the tone of your life? Start with the soil of your heart.
- Ask God to expose the culture within..the unspoken pain, the survival mindsets, the fear, the pride.
- Don’t minimize your tone. What do people feel when they’re around you?
Encouragement or pressure? Freedom or friction? Comfort or confusion?
- Let the Holy Spirit set the temperature. Not your wounds. Not your past. Not your ego. But the Spirit of God in you, bringing life, humility, healing, boldness, and purpose.
You don’t have to live reactive. You don’t have to carry whatever life throws at you. You can choose a new culture..one that reflects Christ, rebuilds broken places, and speaks life into the atmosphere around you.
This isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being honest, open, and hungry to grow.
God will do the rest.
PRAYER
Father, reveal the culture I’ve been carrying. Show me what’s been shaping the way I think, speak, and lead. I don’t want to bring chaos, confusion, or coldness into the places You’ve called me to lead. I want to walk in the fruit of Your Spirit. Fill me again. Let the tone of my life be set by You, not by pain, pride, or pressure. Rebuild the culture within me, so I can bring life everywhere I go. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
